Liver Cleansing Foods

Supplements are a great resource to provide your body with much needed nutrients. However, everything and anything you consume (food, drinks, and even thoughts!) will eventually go through the Liver for processing.
This Spring season, give your Liver the love it needs by taking a break from all the different foods, drinks, supplements, and unnecessary thoughts you consume on a daily basis. Eat simpler and receive your nutrients from highly nutritive and beneficial foods for the Liver.
Here's a short list of foods that benefit the Liver:
- Leafy & Bitter Greens: Mustard, Sorrel, Arugula, Collards, Kale, Romaine, Endive, Dandelion
-
Green tea (Like Organic Gen Maicha Green Tea)
- Green veggies: Asparagus, Cucumber, Cruciferous vegetables, Celery
-
Chlorophyll, Wheat grasses, Seaweeds & Spirulina (Like Dragon's Den Green Drink)
- Sour Fruits: Lemons, Lime, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Crab apple, Sour plums
Sour and bitter foods are highly beneficial for the Liver. These flavors stimulate digestion and bile flow by increasing production of gastrin, a hormone that the stomach makes to release hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid is important in helping to break down food and nutrients for absorption. Long story short: the bitterer, the better!
