Year of the Water Rabbit

Happy New Year!

Year of the Water Rabbit

The Year of the Water Rabbit begins Sunday, January 22nd, 2023. The Rabbit symbolizes hope, peace, prosperity, patience, tranquility, and luck.

This year, Makawao Town will host a Chinese Lion Dance
on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at 10 a.m!

Bring the whole family for a fun time and an exciting martial arts performance!

Offerings to the Lion are encouraged and are traditionally given in a red envelope for blessings and prosperity.

Come be a part of this cultural celebration!

It's time for a Cleanse!

This Cleanse and Rejuvenate Class will consist of new information balanced with ancient wisdom.

There are many varied methods to achieve detoxification, rejuvenation, and balance with a focus on anti-aging/longevity and that will be our exploration.

We will bring a model cleanse and rejuvenation program into class and take it apart to see what makes it work.

No two people have the same physical constitution or mental/emotional make-up, and this is why you need to discover what works for you. That's what this class is about.

We’ll dive into the why and how of a cleanse and rejuvenation program, discuss immune system strategies, the liver, blood, and the pathways of elimination, and better understand the brain, the mind, and our spiritual heart.

Focus will be on herbs, foods, nutrition, exercise, relaxation, breath, and attitude. Come and do a cleanse and rejuvenation program, or just come and gain insight into yourself and life.

You are officially invited to participate in our upcoming Spring Cleanse and Rejuvenate Class!

Heart-Supportive Herbs

Reishi: Studied for its beneficial effects on the Heart: improves heart function, regulates heart beat, strengthens heart-mind connection.

Rose: Roses have been long associated with love. Rosehips are rich in bioflavanoids, vitamin C, and iron. Rose flowers are often used for emotional well-being and to balance the heart-mind.

Hawthorn: These berries are a well-known heart tonic that has been shown to improve heart function and regulate blood pressure and cholesterol.

Cacao: You don't have to know much about herbs to know about Cacao! In its raw form, it is one of the highest anti-oxidant containing foods. It's been shown to improve cardiovascular function and aid insulin resistance as well.
Some of the beautiful Cacao offerings we carry at the Dragon's Den Herb Shop include Ceremonial Cacao by Ora Cacao (top), Shakti Cacao Powder (left) by Livnaloha (left), and Medicinal Mushroom Chocolate by Malama Mushrooms (right).

Den Worker Spotlight!

We love our Dragon's Den workers, don't you? We'd like to start highlighting one of our Dragon's Den workers every quarter, beginning with our general manager Meghane Hernandez

Meghane has worked with the Dragon's Den Herb Shop since 2015, starting out as a sales clerk and eventually moving up to assist Dr. Cotter in his private practice. She has studied with Dr. Christopher's School of Natural Healing, earning a Family Herbalist Certificate. She also currently studies with Michael Tierra's East West School of Planetary Herbology, working towards a Professional Herbalist Certificate. Lastly, Meghane is actively pursuing a Master's Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the Institute of Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

We asked Meghane a couple of questions to share more about who she is and what she enjoys.

Q: What do you do on Maui in your free time?
A: I am big into studying and research, and you will almost always find me near a stack of books learning more about natural medicine! On Maui, I like to surf (it's such a humbling practice), take my dog on Upcountry walks, practice Tai'qi and Qigong with friends, spend time in the garden and forage for wild herbs.

Q: What is your favorite product in the Dragon's Den?
A: It's hard to say which one product is my absolute favorite; they're all wonderful in their own way! If I had to pick a favorite product right now, it would probably be the Pu'erh tea-cakes. I really enjoy receiving the earthy, smooth flavors of Pu'erh, especially as a ritual upon waking up. It doesn't make me feel jittery like other caffeinated beverages! I like Pu'erh tea by itself, but I also really love mixing it with herbs like ginger or lemongrass.
