Stay Cool This Summer!

The days are getting longer and warmer, school's out for the summer and we find ourselves outside more enjoying all that nature has to offer.

From a Chinese medical perspective, we have already entered the Summer season. It is recommended to enjoy cool foods and drinks, avoid over-working and over-exercising, and nourish the Yin aspects of our bodies.

Yin (as opposed to Yang) represents the moistening and nourishing aspects of our body such as blood and body fluids. Over time and with age, our Yin reserves become depleted. This is especially true of those who over-work to the point of exhaustion.

Keep reading on to learn more about Yin nourishing herbs and formulas!

American Ginseng

Known as one of the best Yin-nourishing tonics, American Ginseng is the perfect Ginseng for those living in tropical areas like Hawaii.
It is cooling, Qi-tonifying, and non-stimulating. We especially recommend it if you tend to feel over-heated or deal with chronic stress that leads to burn-out.

Chrysanthemum Flowers

These beautiful flowers are cooling and slightly diaphoretic, meaning that they help to open the sweat pores and release Heat. In China, it is common to drink Chrysanthemum Flower tea as a way to cool down during the summer.

Featured Chinese Formula

Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, or Six Flavor Teapills, is a classic Chinese formula for Liver/Kidney Yin deficiency. What does that mean? As mentioned above, Yin is the moistening and nourishing aspects of our body such as blood and body fluids. Over time and with age, our Yin reserves become depleted. This is especially true of those who over-work to the point of exhaustion.According to Mayway herbs, this formula is helpful in Liver and Kidney Yin deficiency presenting with mild night perspiration, a sense of heat in the soles and palms, afternoon flushing/hot flashes, dry mouth and throat, weakness or soreness of the low back, lightheadedness, mild tinnitus, chronic dry sore throat, fatigue, and spermatorrhea. More advanced cases of Liver and Kidney Yin deficiency symptoms may manifest as wasting and thirsting disorder with excessive urination.Stay cool and nourish your Yin with Chinese herbs💧Disclaimer: This information is for educational purposes only.
